Myrtle Beach is also known as South Carolina’s “Grand Strand”. We have 60 miles of beautiful coastline. The Grand Strand begins at the state line in Little River (Horry County) and runs through Pawleys Island, which is located in Georgetown County. Horry County includes the communities of Aynor, Conway, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach and Surfside Beach. Georgetown County includes part of Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach and Pawleys Island.
Our theaters, shopping areas and golf courses, along with our beaches, bring in an average of almost 13 million visitors a year. Most of our lucky visitors are from NC, NY, PA, OH, VA, SC, TN, GA, NJ and MD. But, we see car tags from almost every state, including those from further up north and further out west.
The largest employers in Horry County include the Horry County School District, Burroughs & Chapin Company, Wal-Mart, AVX, Horry County Government, Conway Hospital, Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach National, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Verizon, among others.
In addition to enjoying our beaches and our weather, visitors and residents like to play golf. And you can play golf along the Strand all year. Over 4 million rounds of golf were played, each year, over the past few years. We have golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Rees Jones, Greg Norman, Tom Fazio and Davis Love III.
